The amount of residual material and secondary raw-materials is increasing around the world. Therefore, waste management is an industry which is subject to constant change. Waste, recyclable materials and scrap (cars, electronics, etc.) must develop to become valuable secondary raw-materials in the future. Hence, recycling is becoming increasingly important, beginning at the stage of product design, production, reposition, processing and energetic re-utilisation.

Worldwide recycling-networks- and centres reflect the global dimension of this development. There is a great demand for recycling engineers with in-depth knowledge.

What skills and interests do I need?

Recycling covers a product’s entire life-cycle, making a holistic way of thinking and interest in technical processes considerable advantages. Throughout the course you will learn to combine and interlink recycling processes with various other disciplines. Besides technical and economic competences, this requires a systematic way of thinking and excellent communication skills. Yesterday’s waste makes up today’s valuable raw materials­­ – a discipline with enormous potential.

What can I expect during my studies?

The bachelor’s degree Recycling equips you with the basics of a technical degree and concentrates on topics including waste management, process technology, metal and polymer recycling and the foundations of materials technology. Additionally, economic factors and legal frameworks also play an important role. The MSc Recycling extends the knowledge you acquired during your Bachelors degree. Focusing on "Landfill- und Urban-Mining“, processing secondary resources, metal recycling and recycling-adequate product-design. Business-orientated courses provide you with the necessary knowledge in management, in addition to a variety of courses designed to broaden your knowledge of recycling’s legal aspects.

What can I expect after my studies?

There is already a growing market, and demand, for recycling. The degree provides you with all the disciplines required to solve problems around the topic. Due to the interdisciplinary qualities of the course, recycling engineers have excellent career prospects.
