Mission

The Department of Metallurgy at Montanuniversität Leoben is dedicated to research and education, addressing the technical and scientific challenges of sustainable production of metallic materials and components. In addition to internationally leading fundamental research, close collaboration with industry partners has been a central pillar of metallurgical research since the university’s founding. The spectrum of research activities ranges from the development of new large-scale metallurgical plants to experiments in space, as well as the analysis of individual impurity atoms that arise due to increased recycling in metallic materials. Sustainability is an integral part of the research-led bachelor's and master's degree programs in Metallurgy and Metal Cycles, Recycling Technology, as well as the international master's programs in Sustainable Materials.
