The award ceremony took place last week at the Aula of Sciences in Vienna. The award, which has been presented since 2008, recognizes outstanding scientific achievements and underlines the importance of cutting-edge research in Austria. Nominations for this prize are made by the universities themselves, which further highlights the quality of the award-winning work.
In his dissertation, entitled “Flexible and Biobased Epoxy Resin Systems: Development, Optimization, and Application in Hybrid Materials”, Schwaiger combined innovation and sustainability: He investigated how fossil raw materials can be replaced by biobased starting materials – an advance that sets ecological and technological standards. The aim was to develop flexible epoxy resins based on vegetable oils for use in (fiber) composite materials.
With its forward-looking approach and the potential to initiate real changes in materials science, the dissertation impressed not only the jury, but also the scientific community.
