New trainee at Institute of Chemistry of Polymeric Materials

The Institute of Chemistry of Polymeric Materials is pleased to welcome Lea as a new apprentice. She has started her training as a laboratory technician in the field of chemistry and will learn various aspects of laboratory work in the chemistry laboratory and polymer chemistry over the next few years.

As part of her training at the Institute of Chemistry of Polymeric Materials, Lea will gain practical experience in modern analytical methods, among other things. For example, she will work with the infrared spectrometer (IR) to identify polymers – a process in which she can determine the polymer by interpreting the IR spectra. Another important task for her is to use the rotary evaporator (Rotavapor), which is used to isolate synthesis products. She separates the solvent that serves as a reaction medium by evaporation and thus isolates the chemical compounds produced.

In addition to practical activities, her training also focuses on theoretical learning. This includes an understanding of chemical reaction mechanisms, basic knowledge of various laboratory techniques and analytical methods. These theoretical contents are essential to be able to actively participate in the production, modification and analysis of our polymers in the laboratory.

We look forward to accompanying Lea on this exciting journey.

Lea, our new apprentice at the Institute of Chemistry of Polymeric Materials

At the rotary evaporator, Lea separates solvents by evaporation to isolate synthesis products.

Using the infrared spectrometer (IR), Lea determines the composition of polymers by interpreting the spectra.

In addition to practical tasks, Lea is deepening her knowledge of reaction mechanisms, laboratory and analytical techniques, and polymer chemistry.
