Efficient by Nature
Imagine you are clicking through the online marketplace and a new smartphone is already in your online shopping cart and will be delivered tomorrow. All of this happens thanks to state-of-the-art logistics. Logistical processes are going on everywhere without you even noticing them.
Industry needs material, energy and information to be able to manufacture products, and that's where industrial logistics at the Montanuniversität Leoben comes into play. It networks procurement with production and distribution from the supplier to the end customer to disposal. And Industrial logistics and environmental protection also go hand in hand.
The right programme for you?
How do raw materials get from A to B? How can an online retailer deliver within 24 hours? And, above all, how can the transport route be planned in a particularly efficient and thus environmentally friendly way?
Would you like to find answers to these questions? That's great! If you are enthusiastic about technology and business administration, if communication and information technologies are particularly exciting for you, and if the protection of our environment is also close to your heart, then the Industrial Logistics degree programme at the Montanuniversität Leoben is the right choice for you.
What can you expect in the Industrial Logistics programme?
During your first four semesters you’ll learn the basics you’ll need before you plunge into the international expanses of logistics systems. After that, you will deal with logistics management and process management. You will learn all the skills you need to plan, design and analyse customised logistics. This includes business administration topics as well!
Digitalisation plays a special role in your logistics studies. In the Bachelor's programme, one focus is on information technology, and in the subsequent Master's programme, depending on your interests, you can also specialise in automation and computational optimisation, in addition to logistics management and logistics systems engineering.
This can be well illustrated using the example of warehouses: You specialise, for example, in how the warehouse must be structured so that everything is quickly at hand (Logistics Management). For the new warehouse robot to work, it needs functioning software and algorithms (Computational Optimisation). The robot's hardware and software have to be able to work in harmony so that it doesn't crash into a shelf (automation). And instead of keeping inventory lists by hand, you’ll learn everything about digital warehouse management (Logistic Systems Engineering).
What career opportunities are available to you after graduation?
As an industrial logistics specialist from the Montanuniversität Leoben you will work in an internationally networked industry along the entire value-added cycle and are ideally prepared for a future management position. Both industrial companies and logistics service providers are your employers and you can promote the idea of sustainability in the logistics world – for example, in the (further) development of concepts for climate-neutral transport.
